Escher’s Lullaby (Ode to Relativity) is a chamber music trio for classical guitar, violoncello and oboe composed to musically depict the three main stairways and outdoor vistas featured in the compelling 1953 art lithograph by M.C. Escher entitled 'Relativity.'

Scales in the music portray the steps of the stairways in the artwork. Three of the scales are performed in contrary motion harmony to convey ascent and descent on the stairways in the “impossible shape” Penrose triangle.

In addition, the three melodic themes in the music represent the three idyllic outdoor vistas that can be seen through the archway at the top or bottom of each stairway.
